Board FAQ

Why do I have to register before I can post on the main forums?
This cuts down on the trolls (those who want to start arguments) and allows the moderators to have the ability to take care of problem posters.  It is easy, just register and use a valid e-mail address.  You will be sent a confirmation to that address.  Follow the directions, then you can post on the Florida Surf Fishing Message Board.  You can post as a guest on the Test forums to practice if you wish.

Can I sell an item on the message board?
Yes you can.  However, you need to have made at least 25 posts on the board before you can sell something.

I'm a dealer, why can't I sell on your message board and others can?
Because that's free advertising at someone else's expense.  Also that is considered SPAM and is highly frowned upon.  Selling is open to private individuals only.  Buying is open to anyone.  If you are a dealer, we can talk about you purchasing a banner ad.

You might be a dealer if:

The goal of these surf fishing forums is freedom of speech and freedom from spam. If you wish to sell items here, ask yourself the below questions to find out whether or not you are a dealer. If you are a dealer, then you need to purchase a banner ad before you can sell here.

You buy fishing tackle with the express purpose to turn around and resell them at a profit, on a regular basis, then you just might be a dealer.
You buy fishing tackle at wholesale, then turn around and sell them at just below retail, then you just might be a dealer.
You have a store, or a certificate of resale, and are selling here, then you just might be a dealer.

Buying and Selling on the board...some Guidelines:

First, this board has always been a place to sell used equipment or second-hand equipment. I keep the dealers off because of problems in the past with Spam and dealers flaming each other. That didn't last long at all.

There are really no concrete rules for buying and selling, just good common sense and honesty. I will post some guidelines that may be of help here.

This website and message board takes no responsibility for any private transactions negotiated here on the board. This applies both to buyer and seller.

If someone posts an item for sale, you may post back that you wish to buy it and finalize it on the board by both parties agreeing to the transaction. I recommend you use both the message board AND E-mail for this to assure you get dibs if you want the item.

Once both parties have agreed to the transaction, then keep any and all correspondence private unless to say that it arrived.

Seller:  Post in the thread that the item is SOLD, pending funds.

There are 'regulars' here that do a lot of buying and selling. I have purchased items from them and they have purchased from me. I feel comfortable (personally) accepting checks from them or sending checks to them for purchased/sold items. However, buyer/seller beware.

Here is the best way to handle transactions. These are only suggestions.

Buyer:

1)  Use a well-documented payment method. My preference is United States Postal Money Orders. These are available at all post offices and their branches. They are backed by the Federal Government.

2)  Send money orders certified mail so you get a signature of receipt.

3)  Be sure the seller insures the item for full value. Pay the extra buck or two to the seller for this.

4)  Specify shipping by UPS as you always get a tracking number and know exactly where the package is and when it is delivered.

5)  Get seller to send tracking number to you in an email.

6)  Let the seller know when the package arrives.

Seller:

1)  Be sure you get correct address from your buyer and send it to that address.

2)  Use UPS for shipping and tracking.

3)  Accept personal checks only if you know the individual or feel confident about that person's reliability.

4)  Follow through until the transaction is complete. (This is for buyers and sellers).

5)  The transaction is complete when all monies/items have changed hands and/or money orders have cashed-out and items delivered.

6)  Keep all details off of the board unless to say that it arrived and/or thank you.

That's about it. Please feel free to buy/sell here, just take an extra minute and spend the extra buck or two to purchase insurance and use a well documented carrier.

Now, if you run across someone that takes your money and does not try to rectify/resolve the issue, let me know.

If someone sells something that is a dirty rotten scoundrel,  schook, hornschwaggler, thief, cattle rustler, no good pizza, or a swindler, let me know all of the details by email. If it is determined the act was done on purpose, I will personally ban that individual from the board where they cannot sell anything else or post.

Enjoy,

Frosty
